Accountability in Job Search

One of the activities I used to make my job search participants do back in my Training Specialist days was to find a job search partner and help each other with job leads, as well as hold each other accountable for his or her own job search. I stressed accountability and positive support during job search and still do. Searching for a job can make people feel isolated, depressed and alone, especially after rejection. By having a partner, one who is going through the same things as you, jumping through hoops, overcoming barriers and obstacles it increases your motivation to search for a job and give support as well as receive support. My participants looked forward to meeting with their job search partner.
Some activities they had to complete were:
Swap job search logs and check that the logs were completed and the number of contacts for the week had been made
Share leads with one another
Meet off location for support meetings or lunch to share accomplishments for the week or disappointments
I always gave my participants 10 minutes to vent or gripe at group meetings and after that, they had to come up with solutions to their gripes. The problem would always be a problem if no attempt to a solution had been made and what would have been the point in meeting if no problems were solved? I even gave my participants opportunities to gripe about me and some of the assignments I made them do, (they really got a kick out of that).
